 Final Thoughts

The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is going to be a behemoth of a flagship packed with cutting-edge features.

The first gives more flesh to the bones of a previously heard rumor that Samsung is planning to revive the variable aperture in the flagship phone.

The tipster says the aperture will be between f/1.4 and f/4.0, which would be a vast leap forward from the last time a company attempted this: a binary option of f/1.5 and f/2.4 on the Samsung Galaxy S10. Let's hope this is more along the lines of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, where the motorized aperture system is controllable in increments of 0.01 stops.

However Samsung decides to do it, having the capability to change the aperture size has a direct effect on how much light the sensor absorbs. That has a profound effect not just on the brightness of a picture, but on the depth of field. It will create a lot more options for photographers, that is.

The two other upgrades are to the telephoto lenses. @SiddhantGeek explains that the 10MP 3x sensor is being swapped out for a 50MP 3.5x model and that the second 50MP 5x telephoto lens is also being replaced by a one with an 184mm focal length and 8x zoom.

In defending the rumor in other comments,  refers to quotes from veteran leaker Ice Universe on Meeco, where he indeed appears to quote another leaker's words regarding the dual-50MP telephoto zoom sensor. But the wording here is not clear-cut.

He said that Samsung will ship 50M 0.56μm and 50M 0.64μm sensors, so the Samsung S26Ultra can replace the 3x 10MP sensor with a dual periscope camera, and 200mm (8x) 50MP becomes possible," Ice Universe reports of a story from another leaker, E8M_8888.

If so, we can then surely expect the S26 Ultra 3.5x 50MP + 8x 50MP setup, which would be fantastic if it were true." The italics are mine, but the best that can be said for this is that it is Ice Universe hedging his bets, and at worst openly skeptical.

Lastly, there's Samsung's history. Sure, the Samsung Galaxy S Ultra line of phones has frequently been a leader in the field of camera technology the past few years, but incrementally from one generation to the next. To be kind, it would be wildly uncharacteristic of Samsung to release three significant camera upgrades in a single generation.

Therefore, you should likely take this rumor with a grain of salt. We might well get an upgrade to a variable aperture or to one or other telephoto lens — but we won't get all three in one go.

A additional 500mAh battery to go along with the customary generational boosts to efficiency would make it the power user phone to beat in 2026 if Samsung boosts the charging speeds beyond 45W.

As might be expected, it's rather early in the cycle for the complete picture of the Samsung Galaxy S26 to have emerged, but there are a few early rumors to watch. The Ultra model has been rumored to pack a gargantuan 324-megapixel primary camera, and rumor has it that Samsung will drop the hole-punch camera (though there is some debate as to whether that will happen). For the non-Ultra models, Samsung's Exynos chipset would appear to return in certain regions, having been skipped out on the S25 series due to low yields.

Quotation marks are also used, implying a direct quote from someone else, placing an additional level of distance between the five alleged sources.

However, @Shukan patel is confident. When it was noted that the 5,500mAh cell could be an early prototype, the leaker hypothesized the final actual capacity could be even less: "Even [if] it's not full 5500mAh it's like 5396mAh."

It is important to point out that 5,500mAh is still a 10% improvement on the 5,000mAh battery on the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and deserves to be toasted. Powered by the energy-saving Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset, it endured an astonishing 17 hours and 14 minutes in our test of the battery. Although that's a hair shorter than the iPhone 16 Pro Max at 17:35 and further off the OnePlus 13 at 19:45, it still puts the Pixel 9 Pro XL (12:54) in the shade.
